How to Commit to Creating Lasting Change

Creating lasting change in your life is not always easy. Sometimes it requires commitment and a fierce resolve.

Many people recognize the need for a change at a certain point or phase in their life. In many cases it is a result of some traumatic event or a “wakeup call” they received from life. It may be a sudden illness, breakup in a relationship, loss of a close friend, etc.  For others it may be a feeling of emptiness and lack or happiness. Or they may just not feel satisfied and fulfilled with the current life anymore.

Most people resist change and are afraid of the unknown. They would prefer to stay where they are even if they are not happy with the situation. It feels very uncomfortable to get out of your comfort zone and into unfamiliar state.

But the greatest challenge in creating lasting change is sticking with it. Change is a process. You can make a decision to transform your life in a second but in order to change your habits and behavior, and shift your focus, you need a structure and support system. And the main reason people fail to create lasting change is because they don’t have all the pieces to help them go through the process.

Make sure you are fully committed to making the change you want, and understand before you start what you are and are not willing to do to achieve your goals.

And don’t assume you can do it all by yourself. Surround yourself with people who can help and support you when you need it.

Get very clear about what you are trying to achieve and why you are doing it. Clarity is a key component of anything we are trying to accomplish.

Tips for creating lasting change

Don’t set goals and start taking action if you are confused and doubtful. Action is very important but only if it moves you in the right direction.

Once you are completely clear about who you are, where you are, and who and where you want to be, you can develop a plan that will move you closer to your desired destination. Keep in mind that this may be a long journey and you may have good days and bad days.

You will face obstacles, experience setbacks and may want to quit. But remember that true transformation takes time and effort and try to enjoy the journey itself. Keep track of your milestones and celebrate your little successes along the way.

Also remember that if you want your life to change, you have to change. If you keep doing the same things, you will keep getting the same results, and your life will stay the same.

If you’re serious about achieving all that you want to accomplish in life, you need to make a decision to change and make a commitment to take all necessary steps to get there.

The process of achieving your dreams and goals may not be easy. It will require a lot of work, dedication and determination, but if you stay positive and hopeful it will be a very rewarding journey.
